If you're still unsure about Xbox Madden 10, then you need a trip through the football video game timeline, back to the beginning, to change your mind. Sure, there's something not right about saying a current game is great merely because it blows away its ancestors. Then again, those side-by-side comparisons help underscore the fact that Xbox Madden 10 is a truly top-notch football video game. It was inevitable, given the popularity of handheld football games in the B.C. (before consoles) era, that gamers would want a video football game to satisfy their needs. Only problem was, the gamers' ideas on what a great football video game should be, versus the reality of the video game consoles' capabilities, made for a shaky compromise. Even then, the game companies were excellent at the hype, and kept boasting that this one boasted "all the excitement" of real football. The characters on the gridiron are more suited to a sci-fi shooter than a football video game. Rough, but true. And if the picture has you cringing, you can only imagine what the gameplay is like. An early symptom of the low-tech nature of older video games was graphics that just blinked like crazy, rendering the action impossible to read. Gamers used to the crisp aural sensation of today's games would be stunned by the lack of cool sound here. As you'd probably guessed, there wasn't a scrolling screen for this one. However, another participant in video game consoles entered the fray, and their football video game scored a touchdown. It had made the necessary innovations to make sports video games some serious business - the characters were animated better, without the same graphical setbacks, and this time, there was a scrolling screen, a necessity for football video games. It wasn't there yet, though.

 

Hardcore gamers were pretty excited by that one, as it really heralded the beginning of sports video games - but it was still just an early entry in the field. It would take a few more years before anything like that took place. But this one, which was released in the late 80s, as part of the next generation of game consoles, really hit it big, to the point where people still love it. If you were to ask a gamer from the 90s what their favorite sports video game was, this one would crack the top 5 list.

 

It's relatively simple to see why it was such a mega-popular hit - before this, nobody really attempted to make a football video game that was this sophisticated. It was an amazing evolution in football video games, and this one was really a major turning point. Today, there's even a new incarnation of the game, and with that is a renewed reverence for it. While worthy of praise, it still trails in the distance from Xbox Madden 10. Hard to believe how much these games have improved since they first came on the scene. We've had a few chuckles, but mocking less advanced video games isn't a productive use of our time. We think you understand. You have to start somewhere, and those other games did - and Xbox Madden 10 would have never been possible if it weren't for those older football video games. Of course, Xbox Madden 10 has really kicked this one over the goal posts, which has the video game world pretty pleased. The fans aren't the only ones raving about Xbox Madden 10 - the critics have said their piece, and they're into it. "Realistic and enjoyable" are comments you'll see during most Xbox Madden 10 reviews. Xbox Madden 10 is another monster hit for EA Sports, though we think you could predict that one.

 

To hell with the people who bag on Xbox Madden 10 - it truly is the best football video game out there. Not to put down any other Xbox sports video games, which have certainly earned their solid rep, but Xbox Madden 10 is just the best of the best. It's the favorite of hardcore gamers, and with good cause. If you're really ready to show your stuff, you can separate yourself from the pack and face off for big bucks.
